Reinventing the Scavenger Hunt using Augmented Reality

In the summer of 2017, I worked on a second augmented reality project using the open-source ARIS platform. This time, I redesigned a traditional paper based scavenger hunt as a guided AR experience for short-term foreign exchange students from Japan. Students were directed to seek out new places, solve puzzles, find objects, write and share notes, and more. Success resulted in receiving virtual items and gaining a running tally of points, which computed into a leaderboard that could be shared with the entire class.

The campus viewed in the ARIS editor map view. Each blue circle represents an interaction radius for an activity.

I presented this project as a poster at the Japan Association for Language Teaching annual conference in Shizuoka, Japan in November 2018.
